Kaìén is a visionary musical and dance collective that reimagines Algerian heritage for a new era. A living archive in motion, they fuse traditional artistry with bold, contemporary expression.

Born between New York and Algiers, Kaìén brings together master musicians and acclaimed dancer Esraa Warda in an electrifying performance that’s the first of its kind from Algeria. The ensemble is led by Toufik Aoun, a blind mandole virtuoso and master vocalist, widely celebrated across Algeria for over 30 years. Alongside him is Youcef Grim, artistic and musical director, and percussionist, known for his collaborations with El Gusto Orchestra, Juan Carmona, Richard Bona, and more. Esraa Warda, a New York-based Algerian artist and one of BBC’s 100 Women in 2022, elevates the collective’s performances with her powerful solo dance, which uplifts traditional forms.

Kaìén’s repertoire spans reimagined, nearly forgotten traditional songs and groundbreaking new compositions, rooted in Algeria’s village squares, women’s gatherings, and communal celebrations. Each performance is a reclamation of history and a celebration of Algeria’s vibrant culture on the global stage.
